Russia Attacks Ukraine Trains
Russia is attacking trains in Ukraine. The attacks are getting worse.
This year, there were 800 attacks on trains. More than 3,000 train stations and railways were damaged. The damage costs $1 billion.
In the last three months, attacks went up three times. Russia uses drones to hit the trains.
Why are trains important? In Ukraine, trains carry many things. They carry food like grain. They carry people - 37% of all passengers. They also carry help from other countries. No planes can fly in Ukraine now, so trains are very important.
Russia wants to stop the trains. They hit the train engines. They hit the stations. They also try to hurt the train drivers.
One train worker is Olha Zolotova. A Russian drone hit her train. She was badly hurt. Fire was everywhere. People pulled her out. Now she is in hospital.
Another attack was at Lozova station. It happened at night at 2:44am. Five trains were there. The building was damaged.
Ukraine is trying to protect the trains. They put special equipment on trains to stop drones. Railway workers learn how to fight back. When there is danger, trains stop and people go to safe places.
The trains keep running. Workers repair the damage fast - sometimes in one day. They don't want to stop any trains.
Ukrainian officials say they need more help from other countries. They need better air defences to protect the trains.
