Giant Spider Web Found in Cave

Scientists found a very big spider web in a cave. The cave is between Albania and Greece. The web is very, very big - 1,140 square feet. That is bigger than most apartments!

More than 110,000 spiders live in the web. There are two different types of spiders. Usually, big spiders eat small spiders. But in this cave, they live together peacefully.

Why do the spiders not fight? Scientists think it is because there is lots of food. About 2.4 million small flies live in the cave. The spiders eat these flies. When there is lots of food, spiders are not aggressive.

The cave is very dark. It is 50 meters from the entrance. The cave also has bats. The bats eat the flies too.

One scientist said the spiders are like people in an apartment building. They share the stairs and lift. But they do not go into each other's homes.

The web is very thick. It looks like a blanket. When danger comes, female spiders hide in the web. No animal can catch them there.

Scientists are very excited. They never saw two types of spiders living together before. They want to study the spiders more. They want to understand how the spiders can be friends.

The spiders in the cave are different from spiders outside. They have different DNA. Cave spiders also have fewer babies than outside spiders.

This discovery helps us learn about nature and how animals can live together.
