Trump Removes Tax on Australian Beef
US President Donald Trump changed his mind about taxes on food. He removed a special tax on Australian beef and other foods.
In April 2025, Trump put a 10% tax on Australian beef. He wanted to help American farmers. But this made beef more expensive in America.
Many Americans were worried about food prices. Beef became very expensive. One pound of ground beef went from $5.67 to $6.33 in one year. That is 13.5% more expensive.
Trump said Australia does not buy American beef. He thought this was not fair. "Australia bans American beef. Yet we imported $3 billion of Australian beef from them just last year alone," Trump said in April.
But now Trump removed the tax. He also removed taxes on coffee, tea, fruits, and other foods. He wants to help Americans buy cheaper food.
Australia sells a lot of beef to America - more than $2 billion every year. American people like Australian grass-fed beef for hamburgers.
American farmers have problems too. There is not enough rain. Their cows are fewer now. America needs Australian beef.
Some people from the Republican Party were not happy with high food prices. They lost some elections. Trump wants to fix this problem.
The new order means people who already paid the tax can get their money back.
