19 November 2025 · A1 Level

Denmark had elections. People voted for city leaders. The Social Democrats party was the biggest party before. Now they are not the biggest party for city leaders.

A party called Venstre is now the biggest. Venstre won 39 cities. The Social Democrats won only 25 cities. This is a big change.

In 2021, the Social Democrats won 44 cities. Venstre won 34 cities then. Now it is different.

The Social Democrats are still big in Denmark. They got 23.2% of all votes. But this is less than before. In 2021, they got 28.4% of votes.

The city of Copenhagen is very important. The Social Democrats led Copenhagen for more than 100 years. Now they lost Copenhagen. A woman called Sisse Marie Welling will be the new leader. She is from a party called SF.

Mette Frederiksen is the Prime Minister. She is from the Social Democrats. She said the loss was bigger than they expected. She said prices of food are high. She also said there are problems between cities and villages.

Some cities still have Social Democrat leaders. These cities are Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, and Frederiksberg. These are big cities in Denmark.

More people voted in 2025 than in 2021. In 2021, 67.5% of people voted. In 2025, 69.2% of people voted. This is good.

Denmark has different regions too. Some regions have new leaders. Most regions now have leaders from Venstre or other parties. Only one region has a Social Democrat leader.

The Social Democrats lost many important cities. They lost Frederikshavn, Køge, Fredericia, Gladsaxe, and Holstebro. These cities voted for the Social Democrats before.

The elections show that Danish people want change. They want different leaders in many cities.
